Myckie started with a lonely puppy and a torn-up rug.
His name was Myckie (with a “y” – my little misspelling that stuck). A rescue pup who arrived at my door shaking, with nothing but a frayed rope toy and a habit of hiding under the couch.
I bought him expensive toys. They broke in hours. I bought a soft carpet for him to sleep on. He shredded it within a week – not out of anger, but anxiety. Every torn thread felt like my failure.
One night, I found him curled up on the bare floor, using the only thing that hadn’t fallen apart: that old, ugly rope toy from his shelter days.
That’s when I understood. Pets don’t need fancy. They need dependable. Something that won’t rip, won’t scare them, won’t disappear when they need it most.
So I learned to sew. I tested fabrics with my own nails, my own teeth (yes, really). I built carpets that didn’t slip, toys that squeaked but didn’t break, textures that comforted instead of confused.
Myckie the dog is gone now. But his name sits on every toy we stitch and every carpet we weave.
